Dip belts and pulley systems are essential for climbers training weighted pull-ups or assisted bodyweight exercises. A weight belt with chain helps add resistance, while a counterweight pulley can reduce load for beginners. Whether you're building strength or refining technique, these tools offer simple, effective progressions for any level.

How Do Pulley Systems Support Climbing Training?

Counterweight pulley systems allow climbers to reduce their effective bodyweight when doing pull-ups or other bodyweight exercises. Similar in function to resistance bands, a weighted pulleys system offers incremental and measurable way to train climbing-specific strength. These systems are easy to set up on hangboards, pull-up bars or climbing frames, and they offer a smoother load reduction than bands, especially useful for consistent reps and technical refinement.

What Is a Dip Belt and How Do Climbers Use It?

A dip belt (also called a weighted belt with chain) is worn around the waist and allows you to hang weights from your body. It's commonly used for max hangs, dips and pull-ups when you want to increase the weight beyond bodyweight. For climbers, weighted pull-ups are one of the best exercises for developing strength and explosive pulling power. However, a dip belt is not neccessary. Most climbers will use a retired climbing harness to do these exercises.
