King Lines
Chris Sharma’s Search For The Planet’s Greatest Climbs
Groundbreaking producers Josh Lowell of Big UP Productions and Peter Mortimer of Sender Films have teamed up to create KING LINES, pushing climbing films to a new dimension (and winning an Emmy Award in the process). Filmed on location in Spain, France, California, Venezuela, Greece, Utah, and Mallorca, KING LINES captures Chris Sharma’s most outrageous ascents and visionary projects, and explores his fascinating lifestyle as a nomadic professional climber and global citizen. Dani Andrada, Dave Graham, Ethan Pringle, Melissa Lacasse, Jibe Tribout, and other outstanding climbers are also profiled.
film highlights:
- The first ascent of Es Pontas, a spectacular free-standing arch in the Mediterranean, and the hardest deep water solo in the world
- Fantasy bouldering on top of the mystical tepuy mountains of South America.
- Sharma’s current project, Mutant Message, which will be the hardest sport route ever climbed.
- Plus: Multi-pitch madness in the Verdon Gorge; Searching for sea cliffs in Greece; Highball bouldering in Bishop; Big-wall trad climbing in Zion; Smoking the competition in Barcelona; and much more

King Lines follows Chris Sharma, arguably the sports most succesful climber of his genre, around the world on his search for the best and hardest lines in the world.
King Lines is another top notch production from Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer, however this film isnt just another dosage. It is an interesting look into the life of a professional climber and delves a bit deeper into the character of climbings most talk about personality. While at some points it feels a bit like a Sharma diatribe, its hard not to to be inspired by Chris's humbling approach to the sport and his sense of being as a person. A look at Chris's personality gives the film an unsual sense of feeling and sympathy that you dont get from other climbing dvd's. King Lines takes you through the US / France / Spain / Greece and Venezuala, filming Sharma at what he does best. The Video also has some excellent extra features, such as Dave Graham doing Realization and Kalymnos climbing - some funny outtakes aswell. If you dont like Sharma (for whatever reason) you wont like this dvd, but I think most of us (at least my generation) have watched Chris grow up from a 16 year old kid in Free Hueco, to the biggest rock star since wolfgang Gullich, and I think a deeper look at this character at the pinnacle of his career is due. My Favourites: -Mount Clarke - 90 meter sport routes with multiple v13 crux's show us what is in store for the next level of extreme sport climbing -DWS in Mallorca Chris sends his arch problem -es pontas (sorry if I ruined the suprise for anyone) -Miguelle- he is funny as!! -Sharma on Trad- sharma screaming his way up a gr.27 finger crack, for "recreational" climbing is funny (mr sport climbing gets very pumped) -Killer soundtrack ( I love my tunes) the dont likes: maybe too much sharma - - would have been good to break it up a bit with some other strong personalitites.. a better movie title would have been "Sharma" Venezuela -I thought it was a bit silly they trumped all the way out into the boonies to go bouldering, but it was a majestic location I suppose. Not enough Spain - I was left hanging for alot more footage of spain, the most recent hot spot of the sport world. No Siurana, no El Chorro, little bit of Rodellar, no footage of La Rambla (or is this being saved for dosage 5??) I thought it was suprising, given the amount of time chris has spent in spain recently. Gave me an impression that the film was just a pre-dosage 5 filler. all up I gave this 4/5 stars. |
